How to Handle a Car Accident?

If you are involved in a car accident, the first thing you need to do is to stop your car. It may sound obvious, yet not many people know that it is not only the best practice, but it is your obligation regulated by the Road Traffic Act. The next thing is to secure the place of the accident. Turn your hazard lights on and make sure that none of the damaged cars will pose any danger to other vehicles on the road.

The next thing to do is to call emergency services if someone is injured or there are any disagreements between you and the other person involved in the accident. Don’t apologise unless you are 100% sure that it was your fault. If the damage is not too serious and you agree with the other driver about responsibility for the crash, you can simply write down each other’s personal details, the description of the accident and sign it in two copies. Otherwise, that person could change the decision later on and sue you for the crash even if it was not your fault.
