Residents of Churchill, Canada leave their cars unlocked to offer an escape for pedestrians who encounter polar bears

There are about 900 polar bears in Churchill area in Canada. That’s why people have to leave their cars and homes unlocked, to make sure they or some passerby can escape in case of meeting one of these big animals. It is also advised not to walk in certain areas to increase safety.
