The fastest speed reached by a vehicle, where powered is transferred trough its wheels to the ground, was 737.8 km/h (458.4 mph). It was achieved by the turbine-powered Vesco Turbinator, driven by Don Vesco, at Bonneville Salt Flats in the USA on 18 October 2001.
